i have recently changed my life. about a year ago i went to drug and alc. rehab. i have a background in construction but i need to learn an estimating program in order to get an office job. six months in rehab has left me unable to find a job to utilize my degree in construction. i’m now a christian and don’t want to “steal” the software but i am absolutely broke. can anyone help?

What software packages is the Construction industry in Australia using to estimate for construction work and what method of measurement do they follow? Is ASMM5 widely used? Are any major contractors still pricing with take-off and bills of quantity in Australia?

For a long time I was an avid The Sims 2 player. I found that over time my interest was no longer in my characters but instead, in building the houses and landscapes. I work for a construction company, and I need a software that can count for example, how many blocks will I need to build certain wall that is x feet wide and x feet tall and how much concrete will I need to do that. Its more like a material counter or something like that…. I will appreciate all the help I can get, thanks in advance!

We are estimating the design phase and overall construction phase of an IT software (j2EE) project. Is there any industry “standard” as to how much time should be spent designing , compared with total construction. I have seen figures ranging from 10-30 % . Would like to hear from some experts.
