May 19, 2009

contractor license

I’m doing some work on a house I bought and I hired some people to do some clean up work worth about a $1000.00 and my neighbor said that anything over $500.00 in the state of California needs to be a license contractor.
Can I get in troble for this?

Can someone work under my contractor’s license?

January 13, 2009

contractor license

I always hear about people working under other people’s contractor’s license. I live in California, and am wondering how this works? I am thinking about getting my contractor’s license, and then my husband would work under that license. Is that legal?

I was wondering if someone could help me, if you hire a contractor to renovate a building, who is responsible for paying the sub-contractors? the contractor or the owner who hired the contractor? on top of that is there any legel way that the owner can be held accountible to the sub-contractors instead of the general contractor? please help!!

How much does it cost contractors to build a typical two story townhouse duplex?

January 7, 2009

contractors

To pay good contractors to do it I should say. Anybody have any examples? I am thinking of buying a junky 1 story duplex house that’s close to a school to tear it down and build this type of structure and sell both units. Or maybe sell one and rent the other.
Portland, OR
I wouldn’t do it right away. I’m just thinking about the process. Thanks.

Why do contractors require both husband and wife to be present at sales piitch? Even when the wife doesnt care

January 3, 2009

contractors

Can someone make sense of this for me? I have had to cancle multiple appointments with contractors for work we want done on our house, just because my wife cant be there for there sales pitch, for one reason or another. And the funny thing is - she has told the contractors on the phone, herself, she doesnt care to be there and that the decision for home improvements is mine. It is beyond incoveinent and just doesnt make sense.

How do I claim independent contractors?

December 28, 2008

contractors

I own an agency and I get gigs for independent contractors. Clients would pay the agency using my Tax ID and I would then pay out the independent contractor. Keep in mind I get a percentage amount of the gig that I get for the independent contractor. How would I claim the independent contractor on my income taxes because our clients send a 1099 to my Tax ID and not the independent contractor? Would the independent contractor be an expense for my business or how would I claim them?
