New Home Construction?
January 20, 2009
We are preparing to construct a new home for our family of four. We have two small children. I have looked through the numerous books and/or design and planning sites and have a pretty good idea as to what type of home that we want (a farmhouse). My question is this: For those of you who have been involved in the construction of your own homes, what things can you not live without that you included in your new home and what things do you wish that you would have done differently or included? Thank you for you input.

In Cleveland, Ohio,
On average, what is the cost per sq ft to remodel a portion of current home, say a basement?
On average, what is the cost per sq ft to build a new residential home?
I know the questions leave a lot of variables unanswered, but all I need to know now is a good working cost per sq ft in Cleveland, OH for most new home construction and a good working cost per sq ft for most remodel projects - particularly basements.
Thanks!
Is it right for home construction workers to use my outside water and electrical outlets? Would you complain
December 24, 2008
Home building etiquette. So there is a house being built across the street from me. These guys are consistently using my electrical and water outlets outside of my home during the day to do their stuff. Do I complain about this or is it etiquette to let them use the utilities at my expense??? They’re fairly rude and messy too, so if you want to weight that with my question feel free!
Which Contractor or Construction Company in California Specializes in exotic home construction projects?
December 8, 2008
I would like to build a home with more curves & less straight angles. Mainly because of wind shear - if there is less for the effects of natural elements to grab at, there would be less opportunity structural damage.
Besides, it would make a great landmark - if anything, it would be way easier for folks to find, if I wanted someone to find my home ( its the one that isn’t square ).
Just like Tony Stark’s house in Iron Man the movie. But not as garish.
What is the process to buying a home in a new construction community?
November 28, 2008
I want to build a new construction home. The loans I have researched want interest-only payments until the house is complete. That is impossible considering that would be as much as a house payment and I already have a hefty one of those! I will make a nice profit off my house once it’s sold but I can’t do that until my new home is built. And I can’t build my new house until…….you see my problem?! They also require $5K down. Can that be included in the one loan I get so I don’t have to take out two loans? I have to be overlooking something. I can’t imagine it’s this difficult for everyone who already owns a home and wants to build. Any tips or knowledge would be greatly appreciated!!
Information on Modern Modular Home Construction
November 25, 2008
Modular home construction has proven to exceed the standards that many people have placed on the traditional home construction process. The modular process is one that is so much faster than homes built on-site, making it better for the customer. If one is interested in modular homes, then knowing about them can help to make any decision easier for a potential client.
One of the first things about modular home construction that should be understood is how these homes are built. They are, in fact, factory built homes, which means they are built indoors and are never subjected to any type of weather conditions. The foundations, however, are laid on-site by a local builder. The homes are assembled via an assembly line, and each piece is thoroughly checked over and over to ensure that all codes and standards are up to date. The finished products are then completely covered and transported to the home site to be put together piece by piece. This construction method ensures that the modular home is not subjected to any conditions that may warp beams and consequently destroy the frame in years to come, unlike conventional site built homes.
In comparison to a home built on site, modular homes usually have the advantage of a minimal turn around time. They can be manufactured quite quickly since they are built in an assembly factory. This means that your home can be completed in as short a time as two weeks; it all depends on the floor plan you opt for. Once you make allowances for on-site construction (when the modular is placed on your foundation by a local builder), your final completion times is only another two to four weeks. And you will never have to worry about your modular home not being ready when scheduled because weather delays never occur inside a factory!
Modular home construction has proven to be safe and sturdy for those people who have purchased a new modular home. No matter where a person chooses to lay their head at night, the fact is the same: People want a home to call their own. Modular homes offer just that stability, which many people are seeking. With their unique construction method, a person can rest assured that their new home will meet all their expectations and perhaps even exceed some.
